The longer story about all this
The Woodward Effect or, sometimes, the Mach effect, is part of a hypothesis proposed by Dr. James F. Woodward. The effect, if it exists (and is practical), might be used as a form of propellantless propulsion in spaceships and other vehicles.
A propellantless thruster would be a breakthrouh in space travel, because such vehicle would not have to expel matter to accelerate, potentially rendering the spaceships to become very fast, lightweight, and cheap. This could make manned interplanetary (and maybe even interstellar) travel feasible and available for everybody.
